Our 18 Month Baby

He's not really a baby anymore, and although at times it brings a tear to my eye, it usually makes me smile :). Carson is getting so big, and so smart, and as hard as it is to believe, even more fun every day!

Carson loves to copy everything his older brother and sister do.  Every.  Thing.  His actions and more and more of his words are a direct reflection of Coop and Izzy.  Usually that turns out well.  Of course, the big kids now know they can get him to say 'butt,' and spit (blow raspberries), and stick out his tongue, and jump on his bed, and this list continues to grow...  It is pretty cute, but we've already started having the conversation about what it means to be a bad influence (thank you Stan and Jan Berenstain).

Carson is such a talker!!!  He has countless words down already, and he tries to say pretty much anything you ask him to repeat.  My favorites are 'wuv ooh,' butt, dah-DEE, owie, a-MEN, cookie, Kiss-y (for our daycare provider Kris), Coo-coo and Izzy.  I love when he 'scolds' Izzy by wagging his finger and saying 'Eat!' or scolding Homer, saying 'Sit!'  Pretty much everything he says is cute and it's nearly daily that he throws new words around.

Check it out :)

He now climbs on everything, including the couch and kitchen chairs, he's getting better going down the steps, he's close to running (for some reason those little legs haven't figured out that gear yet), he has that typical 18 month bravery, and he gets plenty of knocks and bruises along the way.

The little weirdo loves Wheel of Fortune and likes to say the letter names when he hears them.  He claps for the contestants and everything!  He has a favorite cartoon thanks to his big bro and sis: 'Sine-sores' (for dinosaurs), and he likes anything with animals that he sees on TV.  He is less and less content looking over Izzy and Cooper's shoulders when they're on the iPads (which he can also say, and freak out about when they have to be put away!!)... He wants to play himself!  Carson loves music, especially the Frozen soundtrack.  He points to the CD player and says 'Up up!' for me to turn it up, and he spins and dances and bops his little leg.

His teeth are perhaps his defining feature right now...
He has his 4 front teeth and his first 4 molars, but his 9th and 10th teeth are just finally coming in now!  Everyone comments at that big gap, and I think he would look so different without it :) It doesn't slow his food intake down one bit, though!  The kid regularly out-eats Izzy.  He loves everything, is a good veggie eater, and lives for a cookie... Or should I say COO-kie :)

He gives big hugs and wide-mouth kisses.  He is a great snuggler and I love it!  He's even getting more comfortable giving hugs to new people or those he doesn't see often.

He loves to listen to stories and brings us books often.  He backs up right into a lap and listens patiently.  He loves 'The Very Cranky Bear,' 'Ten Tiny Toes,' and any book he can do animal noises or touch body parts with.  He knows lots of animal noises and all the simple body parts!

He lives for playing ball.  The tee, bat, and ball are always the things he goes for when we play outside.  He loves to play and be goofy, especially if he can just be in his diaper or run around in a towel after bath time.  He has the best giggle and when he flashes that toothy smile, the room just lights up.

Sleep is great-he has a good bedtime routine down and naps one nice long afternoon nap :)

He wants to be independent, but of course still needs help for everything, so freak-outs are more common, but I think with his words coming so fast, it's possible this will be a quick phase. One can hope :). He is generally very go-with-the-flow, and for that we are soooo thankful!

Carson has a special connection with both Cooper and Izzy.  Cooper commonly goes in after naps and keeps him company if I'm in the middle of something, and sometimes he'll 'keep and eye' on Carson for me.  Cooper is patient with him and takes time to talk to him and not just tolerate him.  Izzy and Carson love to be goofy together.  It's common to catch them up to no good :). Also, Izzy likes to play dress up with him and play babies with him.  Jeremy is not such a fan of this, but it is ADORABLE!

Carson, We. Love. You.  You are the perfect comic relief, the perfect third pea in the pod, and an awesome little boy.  We love watching you grow, and you continue to amaze us with each day.  Thank you for keeping life in perspective and reminding us how fast time flies... And to just enjoy the little things.  We love you so much!

Izzy's Special Day

Izzy got her special day!  She had been waiting so patiently, and finally it was time!  She got to choose just what she wanted to do, and we had such a fun time.

First, she wanted her fingernails and toenails painted in purple sparkles.  Soon after, she was up for some 'bopping around' to run some errands with me, as long as we could stop at the pet store and the craft store to buy a project for her to make.

She was funny in the pet store--so excited!

For lunch, she picked DQ.  Her favorite part?  Naturally, the ice cream.

When we got home, she worked on painting her treasure box.

My favorite part of the day was taking a quick catnap together in my bed with her.  The pillow talk with her was so sweet and she just loved her special attention.

Her favorite, on the other hand, was her first night of gymnastics.  She was fearless!  In this pic, she's on the 'big girl' beam.

She really liked jumping into the 'pit.'

I am so thankful for the opportunity to spend special days alone with the kids every now and then.  Izzy loved her alone time with me.  I don't honestly think she quit smiling all day!

My girl ❤️

Cooper liked controlling that red ball with a program on the iPhone.  It was his favorite spot.

I can't take her seriously with that red nose!!!!

We love summer!!

Special Niece and Nephew Weekend

Our last Grand Rapids adventure was a special and eventful one!  We had planned the weekend up north to celebrate Rhett's baptism, and Leah decided to arrive just the day before we left!  We got to see her at the hospital along with her tired parents and brand new big sister.  I only wish I had more pictures ;)

Welcome to this crazy, wonderful, amazing world, little Leah Mae!  You are already loved beyond measure!!

And God Bless Rhett Joseph!  He was a calm little trooper on his special day!

We enjoyed the rest of the weekend, too, hanging out at the hotel with family!

Someone loves spaghetti!  After a long day of driving, Old Chicago in Duluth was a big hit!

Their first round of mini golf!

Carson even got in on the action!

Pool time!

A last glimpse of Leah ❤️

Movie Date!

Movie date!

I had two fantastic and excited kids for my dates to see Finding Dory at the movie theater!

Sprinkles and Sunshine

We had a big downpour with no lightning, so the kids grabbed their galoshes and umbrellas!

Carson didn't like the rain, but when it was over, he loved the puddles!

The next afternoon, the big kids picked reading on the deck while I put Carson down for their quiet fun.  I can't tell you how excited this made me!  They grabbed a big stack of books and I didn't hear a peep from them until Carson was fast asleep!

National Night Out was hot and fun.  Carson and Jeremy both had too much of the heat for one day, so they stayed home.  The big kids got their faces painted by some of the Belle Plaine royalty.

And then this.

Yuck.

But they loved it :)

Thanks to the Belle Plaine police department for a fun night to hang out!

Scott County Fair 2016

Fair weekend was a busy and fun one!!  Here is the weekend, in pictures!

Izzy won a Frozen Party to share with three friends.  Her first pick was her brother ❤️.  Illa from daycare, and Callie Greisen were her other friends who made the day a blast!!

They made magic wands with Anna and Elsa.

Carson and Drake loved the chicks.  Carson said, "Chickies!!" probably a hundred time :)

Ferris wheel ride with grandma.  "We could see EVERYTHING from up there!"

Finishing touches to the derby cars.

Ready to race!

Cooper's Power Wheel derby!!

His friend Matthew also had a car, and the two of them had a blast!!

Our family's only had ware.  This was Cooper's trophy 'pose.'

A late night for the big kids--they got to bed at 11:30!!

Izzy milking the big cow

We had to go see Anna and Elsa again!  They remembered her.  The pure joy on her face while singing and listening to their stories was so adorable!

On the tilt a whirl with Izz.  She said it was, "a little scary and a little fun."

Bumper cars with dad

And he's spent!

Our kids absolutely love the fair, and we spent a little time out there every day.  This year, Cooper and Izzy each got to have a special evening with grandma and grandpa.  They each had a night of yes's and special one-on-one.

They each won a couple of ribbons for their Lego creations and some garden veggies.  But the real prize was that little red derby trophy!

Until next year...
