15 Month Update

Miss Izzy Ann is all of 15 months, and my, how she has changed in just a few short months!!!

Weight: 21 lb 11 oz (56%ile)

Height: 30.5 in. (45%ile)  She has short little legs and a long torso, so she looks so funny and cute toddling around everywhere!

Head:48.2 cm (97%ile... brains continue to GROW and GROW!!)

Wearing: Size 3 diapers, size 3 or 4 shoes, size 18 mo. tops and 12 mo. bottoms

Teeth: 5 are all the way through, with two more showing white PLUS her two top molars are poking through, too!  It's no wonder she's been ornery and crying out in her sleep.

Words: Mama, Mom, Dada, wa-wa (water), nu-nu (Nuker), ball, poo-poo, uh-oh, buh-bye, ya, rah-rah (for rock-rock, as in the rocking chair), coo-coo (for thank you), and lots of beginning sounds for all sorts of things!!!  The amount of conversation she understands is amazing!  We love how often she says and HOW cutely she says, "Ya" correctly :)

Sleeping: 10ish hours per night.  One good nap around 2 hours.  This girl doesn't seem to value her sleep... She knows her Nuker is just for sleeping and snuggling, so she leaves her Nuk on the dresser when she wakes up.  If she's getting crabby or tired, she asks for it, and climbs up to snuggle with one of us.

Eating:  She eats anything and everything.  Her favorites are spaghetti and all meats, especially chicken.  She likes to feed herself and is really getting good with a spoon and even a fork.  We need to start working with a cup in the high chair!   Speaking of the high chair, she loves to drop throw food on the floor and say, "Uh-oh" and hold up her little hands.  She loves cheese and crackers, yogurt, pudding, and applesauce.  She has also picked up her mom and brother's love of ketchup, and is getting good at dipping!  She drinks whole milk and loves apple-juice-flavored water.  She is obsessed with pop cans, and daddy made the mistake of letting her take a few sips here and there... great.  And apparently water tastes better if it comes from mom or dad's water bottle or straw thermos.

Monkey See, Monkey Do: This little girl copies EVERYTHING her big brother does, from making goofy noises at the dinner table, to lining up toys, to giving running hugs, to hiding under blankets or around corners.  It is amazing watching her watch him.  She soaks in everything like a little sponge.  If Cooper is playing with something, it's all the sudden her favorite thing.  He has passed along his love for reading to his little sis, although Izzy doesn't like to sit very long for books unless it's bedtime.  Then I think she'd sit for an hour or more!  Her favorite books include I Love You Through and Through (she loves finding her nose, toes, hair, ears, and eyes AND pointing to ours, too!), Miss Mary Mack, B is For Bear, Panda in the Park, and she's starting to like the My First Colors Book (she likes to point to the fish, duck, and puppies).

Other Likes:  Music. Dancing.  Playing chase games.  Pulling out her barrettes or pony tails (consequently, she usually looks like a little mullet girl).  Hiding behind the curtains in the kitchen.  Helping with chores--sweeping, throwing garbage or diapers in the can, pushing the garbage can closed, washing dishes, setting the table, emptying the dishwasher.  Her Nuk--and her hand instantly goes to play with her hair when she gets it.  Climbing... her nickname is Little Goat, because she is bound and determined to find a way to climb up on anything possible.  Just tonight, her tiny little legs and arms finally got her over the edge of the tub.  She can get on the couch, onto her rocking chair, stands on her push toys, and tries to climb onto the kitchen chairs and stools.

Dislikes:  Hearing "No."  Sharing with Cooper.  Being hungry.  Her carseat.

Other News: Izzy is starting to make animal sounds--moo and woof are her usuals, but I think a quack is coming soon!  She can find several body parts, including her belly, ears, eyes, hair, toes, fingers (sometimes), and her favorite is her NOSE.  After she finds hers, she'll walk around to every other person in the room to find theirs, too.  If you are laying on the floor, she likes to lift up your shirt and blow a raspberry on your stomach... a wet, sloppy one!  She holds up her hands as if saying, "Where'd it go?"  or "What happened?"  It's so cute!  She just started her one-year-old Movers and Shakers baby class, and our first session was so interesting--I felt like half of her was missing without Cooper there for her to watch and follow his lead.  She was very hesitant and cautious.  So, it will definitely be a growing experience and a FUN one to see her learn and grow over the next couple of months.

Lately:  We've been trapped inside for most of this month, but the few warmer days we've had, Izzy has become braver and braver--figuring out how to stand up while in her marshmallow suit and climb up the front steps without slipping.  All this extra time indoors has been interesting... she loves the tent and playing downstairs... and climbing up and down the stairs.  She's beginning to be Little Miss Attitude.  She knows that if she squeals when Cooper is near her, it works to her advantage :)  Izzy will have two little cousins this summer!  Aunties Missy and Amanda are both expecting!

Next big things for Isabelle: Avoiding freak-outs when mommy leaves the room.  Keeping barrettes and pony holders in for more than 30 seconds.  Talking on the phone... she likes to beg and scream for the phone only to be silent when we hold it to her ear.  UNLESS, there is actually no one on the line, then she jabbers and jabbers.

Climbing on Daddy.  A favorite past time.
Miss Curious at Sea Life Aquarium.  She walked around like she owned the place!
Hanging with her bro in the submarine
Loves walking in Cooper's shoes :)  And dressing a little crazy!
Out like a light :)

Miss Izzy Ann,
We love you, sweet pea!  You are the cutest little stinker on the planet.  We love to love you... your snuggles are the best therapy after a long day of work!  I love how you are such a mommy's girl.  I could squeeze those chubby cheeks forever!  You make us smile and laugh every single day.  I love you Little Goat, Little Cheekers, Little Izzy Ann.  At 15 months, you are so much fun to be around... BUSY, but fun.  You keep us on our toes and remind us to enjoy the fun little things in every day.

We LOVE you!

On the go

Here are some recent shots from my phone that need some justice on the blog:). I feel a little bad there are so few shots of Cooper, but he freaks when he sees the camera unless there is a huge bribe.  Hopefully he snaps out of it soon. Until then, we just to see more of Miss Izzy!

Izzy's rat nest.  This hair is starting to get unruly.

Bowling with my sisters for our annual "Sister Christmas."

An alphabet lesson on the potty chair.

A fun trip to Coborn's on one of our ridiculously cold nights.  We were tired of being in the house for days!

Izzy loves having her clothes off!  This morning, she knew she looked hilarious with her dress on her head :)

Mmmmmmm!  Snow!  She sat in the same spot licking her mittens for a good 15 minutes!

Check out that focus!  The kids were loading up their piggy banks after Jeremy came home from his guys weekend with some winnings!

Another 'cold' day with no school.  The tent and tunnel kept us busy for a long time!

Snack time in the tent!

Snow Days? Nope. COLD days...

The past two days have been great!  What a gift to have two unexpected days off due to the cold temperatures.  I have officially left the house two times in the last four days, and I have enjoyed every minute!!!

Monday, Gov. Dayton cancelled school for the whole state (it hasn't happened since we were kids, and that was a LONG time ago!).  Now today, both of our districts also cancelled due to the extreme windchills.

We had fun playing, dancing, snuggling, and laughing together.  Nothing more, nothing less.

It was perfect.  And now I'm off to bed to restart "real life" tomorrow.  Waaaahhhh!

Our Three-Year Old

Our crazy, goofy, energetic, smart three-year-old is quite the little boy.  Here is a little taste of what he's been up to these days...

-He switched to a big boy bed now.  The transition was no big deal for him, and he LOVES reading stories with mom or dad while laying in bed, and often asks us, "Lay with me for a little while."

-He loves his books.  It's hard to even pick a current favorite of his, because he really does like a huge variety of them right now.  He does still love to talk about the pictures and what is happening in the illustrations.  He also is really good at filling in a few words here and there.  The cutest thing is to hear him somewhere off by himself, 'reading' a familiar book to himself.  A few of his recent favorites are: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Fun on the Farm (the loudest, most annoying book in our home), Whose Has This Tail, Green Eggs and Ham, and Mercer Mayer's Grandma, Grandpa & Me.

-His imagination is REALLY starting to come alive.  A few of his favorite things are to pretend he's a firefighter, play with his cars and trucks, talk to himself (as if he's giving a play-by-play of his actions), and go fishing with anything long enough to be considered a pole and line (i.e. belts, my robe tie, his play tape measure, etc.).

-He has really good manners for a three-year-old.  It's pretty cute how he says, "You're welcome," or "Anytime," when someone thanks him for something.  He also likes to say, "Please, please, please with sugar on top," when he knows that what he's asking is a bit of a stretch.

-He loves to play outside and eat snow (but he'll tell you he only eats the clean snow).  He loves to help shovel and simply walk around in the snow.  When it's warm enough to make snowmen, he definitely loves that.  And a recent favorite was sledding down the deck stairs with daddy...

-He is a little rough (he's a boy!) sometimes, but for the most part, he's really good with Izzy.  He looooves her so much, and always gives her a hug and a kiss before bed, when we get to daycare, or when he leaves the house for anything.  He apologizes to her when he should, tells her if something was an accident, and pats her or gives her a kiss in a specific spot if needed ;)  She absolutely adores him back, and is his little shadow.  He is working on sharing with her, and they both are getting daily lessons on how to take turns OR play together (and what that really looks like!!)

-He is a daddy's boy.  Even though I have him saying, "I'm mommy's boy FOREVER,"  I know his heart belongs to daddy.  The day has arrived ;)  He always prefers daddy to read him bedtime stories and tuck him in, he loves to tag along to the store or on errands with dad, he always wants to know where dad is or when he'll be home.  He tries to tell me, "Daddy be home soon,"  if he WANTS daddy to be home soon (even though he knows, "Daddy be home late" means daddy won't be home to tuck him in).

-His speech has improved in incredible ways over the past year.  I look back and remember that when he turned two I was concerned that he wasn't putting many words together to make phrases, and he had a very small vocabulary.  Well, apparently he was storing it all up, and it has spilled out now--and then some.  His vocabulary is pretty incredible, and the way he remembers things and makes sense of his world is simply amazing to witness.  He is much more understandable now, and although some of his sounds aren't yet clear, if you have a context for what he's saying, you can pretty much always figure out what he's trying to tell you.

-He is fully potty trained, even nighttime.  He gets up on his own when he needs to at night.  He can nearly always manage his clothing (jeans are still a struggle).  He has a slight aversion to going #2... but we're working through it ;)

-He loves to roughhouse.  Chasing around the house, hiding, jumping on the bed, running in the house, throwing balls in the house, crashing cars and trucks into each other, etc. etc. etc.... it has got to be a boy thing.

-He loves his cartoons like the next kid, with a few of his favorites being Micky Mouse Clubhouse, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and his hands-down favorite: Paw Patrol.  He also has started to have the attention span to sit and watch a movie.  He likes The Lion King, and Ice Age.

-He has fewer and fewer tantrums (yahoo!!!), and those that he has last for less and less time.  He's finally to the point we can reason with him a little bit.   He still gets a time out here or there, but he mostly is a good listener ;)

-We're starting to get more questions from him.  This is new in the last couple of months, and it's so fun (and sometimes exhausting) trying to explain things to him.  He is starting to want to know why, when, where, and what about things.

Cooper, you are an amazing little boy.  You have such an energetic spirit and a zest for life.  We love being your parents, and we look forward to seeing your smile every single morning.  You make us laugh.  You make us think.  You make us appreciate the little things.  You make us consider the things we do and say every minute.  You make our lives so full. You make us so HAPPY!  We can't wait to watch you grow and change.  You are such a great kid!!

We celebrated Cooper's birthday this past weekend, and it was a blast!!  He had a wonderful time being the center of attention all day long.  All of our family came over, and as is usual with both sides, he was spoiled beyond belief!  It was a really fun day, and it is amazing what a difference a year makes!

The cake and cupcakes patiently waited for the PARTY to begin...

And then came the presents...  here are a few of them...

A Jake and the Neverland Pirates treasure chest (with a sword and gold doubloons!!!)

An animal caller.  He likes to go to the window now and say he's calling the animals in...

A doctor kit.  His imagination is having a hey-day with these toys!!

Finally!!  A fire truck with a ladder that can save EVERYONE!
And A BIKE!!!!!

He was excited to ride it around the house ;)  It'll fit him perfectly by summer!

Happy Birthday, big guy!!!

I wonder what excitement this next year will bring?!?!?

Favorite Holiday Memories 2013

Favorite Holiday Memories of 2013

Cooper running into church on Christmas Eve with Jeremy and Izzy, seeing me with my Sunday School class, and yelling, "Mommy, I got my TIE on!!"

Cooper 'getting' the idea of presents was a blast!  And he was pretty okay with the idea of unwrapping everything before playing with one thing.

Izzy 'booping' the tree ornaments, after thousands of times saying, "No, no, Izzy!"  She decided to copy her brother and poke at them with her pointer finger.

Sledding down the deck stairs with daddy.

The kids amazing us at their flexibility staying up late, being pretty well-behaved, and even sleeping a tiny bit later in the mornings. (We regularly made it to 7 AM over the five days surrounding Christmas!)  We had five Christmases in five days... but they were troopers!!

Making cookies for Santa.  Well, let me rephrase... Cooper rolling out the dough, poking all the cookies to make 'buttons,' and dumping sprinkles on while saying, "Spinkle, spinkle, spinkle."  And Izzy shoving fistfulls of dough into her cute little mouth while I was distracted.

Both kids freaking at the sight of Santa.  Again.  Like death-grip, hide their faces, scream-when-we-try-to-put-them-on-his-lap freaking. But the Santa we saw did a really great job trying to get them warmed up.  Good effort, Mr. Claus, but no chance.

Cooper being confused about a puppy being inside his big box and Gma and Gpa Kalal's house.   Then his confusion when there was nothing in the box.  Then his sheer excitement when he received the 4-wheeler from Jackie!!  And, of course, his love of driving back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, through the living room on it.

The kids agreeing to photos only when Izzy got to sit in Cooper's lap.  And he either nearly strangled or strongly smooched her every time.

The entire holiday break was simply awesome.  We got a lot of time to see family, relax, and have fun together.  What a blessing to have this time off together.  It was stress-less and wonderful!!  Below is a Smilebox creation I made... I have never embedded one on my blog page, so I hope it works!  You should be able to zoom into individual pictures if you want a closer look at any.  (Sorry about the ads!)
